After participating in the training in media use – and how to attract the practitioners, held in August, I gained courage and approached radio stations in Hoima. I visited Radio Liberty, where a presenter, Byamukama Patrick prepared me for a radio talk show. I did not panic as I usually do when I attempt to speak in public.
The August training empowered me with communication skills, and on how to conduct myself at a media activity. The role play where we acted as Radio Moderator or Resource Person, particularly, helped me to gain confidence.
The training also helped me create rapport with the journalists in Hoima, as a strategy to keep myself visible in the media, and for the voters to know me. It also helped me to know my community better, by identifying who are my voters and where I can find them, instead of moving the entire community. More women leaders need more trainings in presentation and communication skills, as it’s only a few of us that have mastered that skill
Uganda Media Women’s Association conducted a training for aspiring women leaders to equip them with skills on how to strategically position themselves in media for coverage under the project media for gender equality and social justice; leaving no one behind.
