Most places around the world celebrated Mother’s day on Sunday 9th May as has been the ritual for centuries now. However, we can all acknowledge that one day in the year could never be enough to celebrate these very special human beings.
Whether your mother is still alive or not here anymore, we can all attest to how big of a blessing these women are in our lives. From painstakingly bringing us into this world, most mothers everywhere strive their best to give their children a good life in as far as they can. Actually, more often than not, mothers are usually expected to put their child’s needs before theirs which they very selflessly do so.
The pivotal role of many women is motherhood. Mother’s influence how their children grow up and in the end, what they turn into in society. This is an illustration of how mothers are timeless teachers to their children. We can say this comes from the unconditional love they have for their kids.
Therefore, while one day may seem very small of a gesture to celebrate these super women, Mother’s day is a great opportunity to remind them how special and loved they are to us. The culture of gifts and treats and pampering of mothers by their children on this day is symbolic of the reciprocation of the love and care they accord us always.
This celebration is believed to have been taken on from Anna Jarvis who took the initiative to dedicate this day to her mother in 1905 after she had passed away since her mother had expressed the desire for this although ancient societies had been doing this from time immemorial. This day was later officiated by former American president Woodrow Wilson in 1914. It is however celebrated worldwide on different dates presently.
In honor thereby of these amazing human beings, our mamas, I endear you this week especially as its still Mother’s Day season to let her know as often as you can how much you love her and appreciate her. Be creative and do something that will make her smile! Cook her favorite meal; take her to her dream destination… Really, do anything you are able to that you think will please her.
It is even more dear to celebrate that mother who is a journalist and beats all odds to deliver the public good of information but also provide all the world can offer best for her children amidst all challenges. Dear mothers, you are ‘potters’ whose works are a building blocks of all nations.
Wishing you a blessed and lovely week.
